Theme 2: Measuring and Valuing Outcomes
EEPRU’s previous work supporting the implementation of EQ-5D-5L has successfully answered key questions directly required for policy decisions (the defining purpose of PRUs). Beyond the impact through immediate policy support, the work has also made advances in the field by developing cutting-edge methods and through primary data collection. It’s a great example of research suited to EEPRU’s remit and expertise.
The proposed future research extends the programme through several projects aligned with ongoing priorities to smooth the appropriate implementation of EQ-5D-5L. In line with current work, these projects directly inform policy decisions or guidance given by policy makers to economic evaluation analysts, while also entailing methods testing and development.
To test whether it is appropriate to refine existing methods for mapping between 3L and 5L to enable their use by analysts to be simplified and, if it is considered appropriate, to estimate the relevant mapping models.
To develop methods which permit the appropriate reflection of parameter uncertainty when mapping between 3L and 5L and to illustrate the impact of that uncertainty.
To develop our understanding of the combined impact of the 5L descriptive system and its associated value set on different types of health improvement and technology types, including the impact on carers.
To estimate the impact on health-related quality of life for parents of children with a range of acute conditions, providing off-the-shelf estimates for future economic evaluations.
